A Great Holiday with Family

By Jenna Reich

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday. I can pretty much sum ours up in one word: Amazing! Terry flew to Seattle to pick McKailen up and then they flew back home. The court has made it a little difficult for the holidays but we made it work. When they arrived it was late Wednesday night so we showed him his room and put him to bed. I am glad to report that he loves it. Since he picked the color I finished his room with cars and planes everywhere. He really liked it.

Thanksgiving we woke up to two very silly kids ready to play. We spent the whole morning playing and having a great time. Then we went over to my parent’s house for dinner. My parent’s have several dogs, and when I say several I mean 7 plus my brother brought his 2 so there were 9! Crazy…The kids are not that much into thanksgiving dinner they both had rolls, corn, stuffing and very little turkey. Terry was so glad that McKailen tried food even though he didn’t like it. We also went to a nature and lights show out at the lake. The light show gets better every year. It was a fantastic day. However, Friday was not as nice.

McKailen got sick and that was not very much fun. He rested most of the day. By the end of the day he was feeling better so we went and had dinner and then came home to decorate our tree. Kailen was such a great help and since we have a 12-foot tree we picked him up to decorate the tree! I must say that boy is getting so big; it’s getting much harder for me to pick him up! They then went to sleep and we got a couple of hours to ourselves! I never realized what it was going to be like having two kids all the time.

Then on Saturday we had a full day planned. We went to the shop so that McKailen could say hi to the race cars! He and Braiden ran and ran and ran. We then picked up my mom and went to Austin. Braiden is really not liking Santa this year but we figured with McKailen he would do a little better. WE were wrong! He screamed like there was no tomorrow. We also had family photos done which I am so proud of them. They look great…. After that we went to this inflatable tone and the kids jumped for what felt like a long time. I was a little bummed because there was a really awesome train in the mall to ride and it was closed. So we took some photo’s by it. When we went home we spent the evening playing and making a gingerbread house! That was fun too.

Sadly, on Sunday we had to return him to Seattle. When Terry returned with him on Sunday he picked him up for more visitation on Monday in Seattle. He returned Thursday to find we had so much to get done. We have been selling parts left and right trying to get ready for next year. We will see him again for Terry’s birthday and we get him again Christmas Eve through New Years Day here in Texas. We are so excited and we can’t wait. We always have the best time when we are all together.

Now on to some racing business…. We have a meeting next week with a potential sponsor and then we have another meeting towards the end of the month. We are hoping to have some great news coming soon. This week we are working on the shop and getting all of the electrical finished. We then will leave on Saturday and head to Colorado with the whole family minus McKailen for a great family vacation.

Vegas and Testing

By Jenna Reich

Whoo… what a great weekend and week it has been so far. I have so much I want to tell you. First and foremost I have to talk about the Funny Car and Las Vegas. Last week when we left it was a trying time for us. We left at 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning and drove what felt like forever. We finally arrived at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and got parked. We then set up the circus and headed for the hotel. I want to take a second and thank Greg, one of our newest members, for letting us use his truck to haul the Funny Car. We keep the dragster in the large trailer so he offered to let us use his truck to tow it. We try to travel together but obviously it’s not always easy. Thursday we spent the whole day getting ready for Friday. Since we were part of Fan Fest we had to leave early to make sure that we were there on time. WOW… is all I can say. It was so nice to see our fans. Everyone was so receptive. I must say when Bob Frey introduced Terry it was pretty funny because he came out with the dragster group and he was actually driving the Funny Car and Bob told him that he came out with the wrong group and all Terry could say is “What can I say, I can’t follow directions!” How funny. He was sitting next to Jason Line who was so nice and they talked. On his other side was the “Pit Boss” and here is a photo of them. I will say that the Troxel Challenge was awesome, however, seeing that Terry is afraid of heights it was not in his best interest so he choose to skip that part. We watched all the people go on the zip line and really wanted to do it but we didn’t have anyone to watch Braiden so we missed that one. We will definitely do it in April since it will be my birthday weekend.

Now onto the fabulous weekend with the Funny Car. So many great people came by to see us. Friday when we arrived at the track it was a little different. We saw all the large teams there already so we knew something was up. The schedule for Friday is usually 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. This time it was 1:30 and 3:30, so while we wanted to make all the passes we missed the first one. The second pass was a planned shut off. We went out about 400 feet and shut it off just to make sure everything was going in the right direction for us. So then Saturday started and we were supposed to run at 12:30 but because of all the oil downs it was more like 3. Terry went out and ran the car to 800 feet and stepped off. He was 16 at the end of Q3. We were very happy with that. However, the last run was so late at night that when he launched the car it was heading towards the wall and so he stepped off. Unfortunately, that put us 18. We missed the field but are very happy with the car’s performance!

Since we didn’t qualify Sunday we serviced the car and then pulled out the dragster so that we could get ready for testing with me. Speaking of Sunday it was so exciting to see Dom Lagana go to the finals. We were pitted right across from them and it was so great to see all of the smaller teams rally around them, willing to help with anything. Congrats to them… they did an amazing job. We are also glad to hear they will be running 7 races next year!

Now onto Monday. Oh how I have been waiting for this day! We spent most of the day getting new belts and fitting the car for me. We warmed it up twice just to make sure that everything was where Terry wanted it. I have never seen him so nervous before. So we towed up to the line and we were talking on the radios and he said more often than not the first time you won’t even make it to the Tree because your brain is going to say no! Well I proved them wrong… it went 100 feet. It is hard to describe and I wish everyone who is a drag racing fan could do it to know what it feels like. I don’t have very much experience and I have to tell you I was probably the slowest reverse from the burnout in history but I needed to get the feelings down. It was night time and the header flames launched about the wing. My 60 foot time was .860 on the rear tires because the front end was in the air. Bob Z took a photo and he said he was happy to see that my eyes were open. The second one I wasn’t completely straight so it started moving towards the wall so I lifted. The last one was so very different. It smoked the tires and I thought “I’m not going anywhere” so I lifted. Terry was so glad that I didn’t hurt anything and could feel it wasn’t right! I know I didn’t get very far, but I am very happy with how it went and now we are trying to find funding so that I can feed my new addiction! J

After we left on Tuesday night, Terry went to see McKailen since we missed his birthday and Braiden and I came home. We got him a bike and Terry has been spending all his time teaching him how to ride it. McKailen, we love you and Happy 4th Birthday! Terry gets home tomorrow and we will have the weekend to us. Then it’s on to Pomona! The last race of the season! We are so glad it’s here… we have some exciting news in the coming weeks!
